Ca Fait Deux Jours

from Freedom From The Known by Afrikän Protoköl

/

about

“It’s about two days” (Ça fait deux jours) is a popular expression from the city of Bobo-Dioulasso which means: “it has been a long time since we met”. This period of time could be one week, one month or even one year, often more than two days actually! However, I have been told that this expression is also used in villages while two persons haven’t seen each other for a few hours only or for the day before. This is a politeness used to mean: “time has passed so slowly since we met that I have the impression that it has lasted two days”. This expression gives us an interesting perspective about the notion of time between two encounters, about unexpected reunions and about all these people we meet in our life without knowing if we will meet them again the same day, tomorrow, in two days or never ever.
